Building Spaces, Building Trust

Archera began in a rented shophouse in Kemang with three people, one drafting table, and a single residential renovation. We had no portfolio to show, so we competed on the only thing we could control: how carefully we listened and how honestly we priced the work. That first client became our second, then referred our third — and the standard we set on that project is still the one we measure ourselves against.

A boutique office fit-out in SCBD pulled us out of our comfort zone. Commercial work runs on tighter deadlines, stricter building rules, and tenants who cannot afford downtime — so we rebuilt our process around phased handovers and weekly site reporting. It was the year we learned that working faster and working carefully are not opposites, provided the planning is done up front.

For years we handed our drawings to outside contractors and watched details get lost in translation. So we brought construction in-house. One team now carries a project from the first sketch to the final handover, which means a single point of accountability for the client and no gap between what was designed and what gets built.

Villas in Bali and a wellness retreat in Ubud opened a chapter we had not planned for. Tropical sites demanded different answers — cross-ventilation instead of sealed air conditioning, materials that age well in humidity, and joinery made by craftspeople whose techniques predate anything in our specification library. We came back to Jakarta with a wider vocabulary.

We handed over our hundredth space — a flagship retail store in PIK — and took the milestone as a reason to look back rather than celebrate. Across homes, offices, clinics, and cafes, the studio now runs as one team of architects, interior designers, and builders. The work has grown considerably; the way we decide what is good enough has not.
